B i o g r a p h y

Zoraida Oyola Rebaza has an international career as a performer and teacher. She has played solo recitals in Italy, Peru, Finland, and the US, and has taught at Universidad Union in Lima, Peru, the University of Delaware, University of Iowa, and Proyecto Musical Rimac, which was based on the principles of El Sistema. Zoraida has toured with orchestras around Spain, Finland, Ecuador, Germany, Peru, and the US. She  recently received her Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the U. of Iowa. In addition, Zoraida has a Master of Music from the U. of Delaware, and a Bachelor of Music from the Turku Music Academy. 

 

Zoraida has taken master classes with Janos Starker, Tsuyoshi Tsutsumi, Hai-Ye Ni, Timothy Eddi, Andre Gaskins, Martti Rousi, Andres Diaz, Bruce Ushimura, and Colin Carr. She has founded and directed several ensembles performing in Gore Recital Hall, Sigyn Saali, and Riverside Recital Hall.  With the Oyola-Rebaza trio she performs works that incorporate dance, acting, and singing.

 

Her multicultural education and background enables her to be a versatile performer as well as a teacher of distinctive teaching methods and syles. She currently serves as cello faculty at the Cedar Rapids Suzuki Academy, maintains a private studio, and regularly performs with the Dubuque Symphony and Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra.
